Toxicity: WHO Table 5, EPA III acute oral LD50 3030 mg active ingredient/kg, or 4000 mg/kg. Rabbit acute percutaneous LD50 1560 mg active ingredient / kg. Irritating to skin and eyes. In the two-year feeding test, rats fed <3000 mg/kg showed no carcinogenesis. Acute oral LD50 of sputum: 1000 mg/kg. Blue mullet LC50 (96 hours): 300 mg / liter, rainbow trout: 350 mg / liter, leeches EC50 (48 hours): > 5000 mg / liter. Not poisonous to bees. Not toxic to cockroaches.
Uses: Ethephon releases ethylene in tissues such as roots, pods, flowers and fruits of plants to regulate plant metabolism, growth and development. This product accelerates the harvest and ripening of fruits and vegetables and is used as a ripening agent after fruit harvest.
